Dr. Robert E. Mooty
Pastor

In the 1960s members of other congregations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Lynchburg area saw that the city was moving south into Campbell County. The decision was made to establish a new congregation in the Timberlake area.

Pastor-Developer John W. Johnson founded Timberlake Christian Church in 1968. Originally, the church met in Brookville High School. Land was purchased and in 1973 the first building was constructed. An addition in 1997 doubled our space and allowed us to host many more community events as well as weddings and receptions.

Timberlake Christian Church has taken a unique approach to filling positions needed for the efficient operation of our church. Rather than create committees and task forces, we have chosen to develop a more nurturing environment (Family Group) that fills the needs of the church, but also serves as an extended church family for spiritual growth. See the Family Group section for more information. The Family Groups, their Elders and Co-Leaders are listed at the bottom of this page.

TCC is also a firm believer in mission work in and around the community in which we are located. At any given time, you may easily spot one of our members taking part in some mission program throughout the Lynchburg area.

Family Groups
Our congregation is currently divided into six Family Groups. The Family Groups have each adopted names for themselves such as "The Lord's Rangers." Each group is led by one or two Elders and two Co-Leaders. The groups meet every other month for fellowship, spiritual growth, and planning to carry out their responsibilities within and beyond the church. Once a quarter all family groups come together for fellowship and spiritual growth at our congregational meetings. The schedules for these can be found in the Schedules section. The Family Group information is located at the bottom of this page.

Mission Work
Members of TCC are involved in the Timberlake area ministries' food pantry and clothes closet, Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Interfaith Outreach Association, and other mission efforts. Once a month we provide dinner at The Gateway, a shelter for homeless men in downtown Lynchburg. We would be more than glad to have you join us on any of our on-going or special mission projects.

Facilities
Timberlake Christian is located on five acres directly on US 460 west. The upstairs portion of the building closest to the road is the gathering area, the first room one enters coming in the main entrance, and the fellowship hall, home to Celebration Worship, youth suppers, and many other events. The main kitchen and two bathrooms are off of the fellowship hall. The sanctuary, seating app. 180, completes the upstairs, and is located to the left as one enters the gathering area.

Downstairs closest to the road is the Sunday School wing. This area can be accessed by stairs from just outside the sanctuary, a hallway from the downstairs main parking lot entrance, or directly from the parking area in back of the building. There are five classrooms and two nurseries.

Underneath the sanctuary is a hallway containing the church library, Pastor's office and choir room on one side, and the children's library, Youth Director's office and Secretary's office on the other.

Outside on the back part of the property there is a soccer field, heavily used by the Campbell County Recreation Dept. and a softball field. Nearby is a picnic shelter,
swingset and beach volleyball court.
